James Tracey Obituary

James Melvin Tracey, Jr., age 87, of Pikesville, Maryland, passed peacefully on February 6, 2025, at Brightview Westminster Ridge. 'Trace', as he was known to some family and friends, was born on April 18, 1937, to the late James Melvin Tracey, Sr. and the late Anna Virginia Tracey (nee Smoot). He was the beloved husband of the late Esther 'Annette' Tracey (nee Warren) and was predeceased by their infant daughter, Sandra. Trace is survived by three children Scott (Meghan) Tracey, Chris (Sharon) Tracey, and Amy (Bobby) McCaffrey. He leaves behind five beloved granddaughters, Megan (John) Gamber, Amanda (Kyle) Tracey, Madison Webb, Kelsey McCaffrey, and Kendall McCaffrey. He was thrilled with the recent birth of his great-granddaughter, Blair Gamber. Trace is also survived by his beloved sister, Nancy (Mike) Greenwalt, sister Sharon Cianci, brother Troy Tracey, many in-laws and loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Helen Zumbrun, Roger Tracey, Gene Tracey, and Joyce Tracey. Trace's life was a full one, characterized by a great love of his family and the community in which he lived. He proudly served in the Army National Guard of Maryland earning an Honorable Discharge upon completion of service. He was a life-time member and past president of the Randallstown Optimist Club, a successful rec league baseball and football coach, and a proud spectator of his children's and granddaughters' events and activities. Trace had a long career in highway construction and retired as a senior project manager. Trace enjoyed frequenting the track with his brother-in-law George Welsh (even owning a few prize horses themselves); rooting for the Baltimore Colts, then the Ravens, and the Orioles; golfing; solving the jumbles and crosswords in the morning paper; listening to country music; and above all, spending time with his family. He will be remembered often and very fondly as the treasured patriarch of a very lucky family. Visitation will take place on the morning of Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 11:00 am followed immediately by a memorial service at 12:00 pm at Burrier Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, Maryland.
