Burnel Smith Obituary

Burnel William Smith, 39, of Hinsdale, died Thursday, December 26, 2024, at home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born in Appleton, Wisconsin on January 19, 1985, the son of Dean and Lorinda (Scheetz) Smith, he was a 2003 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. He continued his education, graduating from Berkshire Community College (2005) and from Full Sail University (2007).

A faithful servant of God, Burnel regularly attended worship at 1st Congregational Church of Hinsdale, 1st Congregational Church of Dalton, and ARK Community Church.

Burnel was employed by Price Chopper in Lenox, Crane Stationery in North Adams, Annie Selke in Pittsfield, and as a custodian at Wahconah Regional High School.

Burnel enjoyed gaming with his brothers and his Dungeons & Dragons friends. He enjoyed camping trips with family, maintaining the Appalachian Trail with his father, history, mythology, nature walks, and reading stories of fantasy and adventure.

Burnel leaves his parents Dean and Lorinda, of Hinsdale, and his brothers Nolan and Schuyler.

He was predeceased by a brother, Logan.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Celebration of Life for Burnel William Smith will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, 1:00 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale or HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.

So sad and surprised to see his death in the paper. I worked with him at Crane. He was sweet, honest, to a fault, and had a strict sense of right and wrong. The world has lost an asset.
