Allen Peppe Obituary

Allen Francis Peppe (9/22/26 - 6/14/22) born in New York City to Frank and Alice Peppe. The family moved to Long Island where he spent the rest of his life enjoying its beautiful beaches and many lifelong friends.

Allen enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was verbally recognized by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower as a young and capable Sergeant during WWII.

In 1955, he married Elizabeth (Libby) Rougvie and they celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in 2020 shortly before she passed away. The Peppe's loved their 50+ years of summers in Lanesborough, Massachusetts, which to this day is a beacon for memorable, extended family visits. While there they built cherished friendships and had many happy times around Pontoosuc Lake.

Allen dedicated his career to education. As a teacher, Social Studies Department Chairman and a wrestling coach for over 30 years in the Wantagh, NY School District, he positively impacted many people. Many students kept in touch with him for up to 50 years after they graduated. He loved reading, critiquing movies, fixing things and researching Peppe genealogy. Serving their community well, he and Libby received the St. John's Episcopal Hospital Humanitarian Award. Allen will be remembered for his love, guidance and great sense of humor and missed by his grateful family and friends including daughters Robin Peppe Sterneck, Wendy Peppe Anderson and April Peppe Cassatto; sons-in-law Frank Sterneck, Thomas Anderson and Michael Cassatto; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, his sisters-in-law and many loved nieces, nephews and their children.

A funeral mass and graveside service with Military Honors was held in NY. Allen was devoted to helping students and the life lessons of sports. Donations can be made to the Wantagh Sports Booster Club, in Memory of Coach Allen F. Peppe, Wantagh High School, 3297 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh, NY 11793.

Mr Peppe was my Junor High School wrestling coach.. I was first string. Mr Peppe called me his secret weapon. LoL My family did not have lots of money at that time. I did not have the money to buy wrestling shoes that all other first stringers ware. Mr. Peppe figured out what was going on and bought me my 1st pair of wrestling shoes!!! Thank you Mr Peppe!!!
