Sally White Obituary

WHITE, Sally

Sally F. White died after a brief illness June 1, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospice in Shreveport, Louisiana. Sally approached life with great enthusiasm and her motto was always "Let's do it!"

Born in Texas in 1924, she earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas in Austin, and studied at the Scheil School of Art (Chicago), the Dallas School of Commercial Art and Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond).

She worked for many years as an account executive for The Merchandising Group ad agency, specializing in textile industry accounts throughout the eastern U.S. She was especially proud of her role there as one of the few women charged with handling such marketing efforts nationally.

Later, she worked at Neiman Marcus as the Public Relations and Fashion Director at the Atlanta, Georgia store, during which time she helped Stanley Marcus open other store locations for the firm throughout the U.S. Retiring after 23 years at Neiman's, she worked in the Press and Public Information office of the 1996 Centennial Olympics in Atlanta, and as a freelance marketing and public relations consultant. She was also a community columnist for the Northside Neighbor and Gazette newspapers and fashion editor of both Season and Southern Seasons magazines. She spent many hours at the Dorothy C. Benson Complex in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and at The Oaks in Shreveport, Louisiana, helping other senior citizens write their memoirs.

In Atlanta, she held positions with numerous service and professional organizations, including membership in the 1980 class of Leadership Atlanta, charter membership in the Atlanta Press Club and offices in Fashion Group International.

She served on the boards and advisory boards of many organizations in Atlanta, including the Atlanta Speech School, and was an active member of even more. She was a contributing member of the Atlanta History Center's textile collection and helped research costumes for the Tullie Smith House museum.

Sally was married to the late Joseph A. White; and is survived by her son, Clair F. White; and daughter-in-law, Dr. Linda Gage-White, of Shreveport, LA; grandson, Gary J. White; four greatgrandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life and her 100th birthday party will be held at the Summit Center, 5400 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA, on November 16, 2024, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The National WWII Museum, 945 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70130-9871.

I worked at the Atlanta Neiman Marcus for 9 years and always admired Sally's work ethic and energy. I remember her encouraging those she worked with to show up as their best selves. Through her actions, she reminded us to live life to the fullest.

Sally was a great member of the Atlanta PR community and an inspiration to women in the profession back when we struggled for recognition. Her distinctive Southern drawl and enthusiasm for meeting people helped define how to "work the room." I admired her talent and her style. She will be remembered.

Sally was permanently wonderful! I was an original employee at the brand new New Neiman Marcus store in Atlanta in 1973. She was a paragon of style and wisdom. I would see her over the years, always so involved here in town. A lovely role model.
I would love to know how to send an actual letter!

Sally was a gracious lady, always kind and welcoming whenever I saw her....
I knew her mainly through Neiman-Marcus and The Northside Neighbor. Upbeat and enthusiastic, she made every visit to N-M a pleasure.
Condolences to her family and others who held her dear.
Sally was a joy! Kindest regards...

Sending deepest sympathy to Sally's family. She was someone I admired greatly. Working for her while she was in the textile industry and at Neiman Marcus was always an adventure. Her memory will be lasting in all the hearts of her models and others in the fashion industry. May memories in the heart bring comfort to the soul. As ever, Martha Jo Katz
