"Rosie"

The family of Rose Mary Barnes is sad to announce her death due to breast cancer at age 60 on October 21, 2024. Known as Rosie to those closest to her, she touched many lives with her warmth, humor, and ceaseless generosity.

Rosie was born the fourth child of seven to Marie Allene Jones Barnes and George Richard Barnes of Chamblee, Georgia. She was a loving, vivacious person with a ribald sense of humor and a zest for life.

Rosie completed her early education at Huntley Hills Elementary School and Chamblee High School before advancing her studies at Okefenokee Technical College and Gwinnett Technical College. Professionally, Rosie was versatile, working in sales, marketing, and as a paralegal. She dedicated the later part of her life to personal care nursing, where her warm and compassionate nature profoundly impacted those she cared for.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Allene and George Barnes; her brother, Thomas Robert Barnes; and her sister, Angela Juanita Barnes.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann McMurphy; and son-in-law, Kenny McMurphy; granddaughter, Lily Petty; her mother and sister of the heart, Jeanne Biles and Suzanna Holl; her sisters, Judge Anne Elizabeth Barnes, Juliette Marie Barnes, Esq., and Carolyn Barnes; as well as by her brother, Richard Gregory Barnes; her beloved nieces, Angela Barnes Flores, Esq., Amanda Chavez Barnes, Catherine Duncan; her nephew, George Christian Adamson; and countless friends and loved ones.

Contributions in memory of Rosie can be made to Kamala Harris via the Harris Victory Fund, Women's March, or Planned Parenthood, all of which support causes that were dear to her heart.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Dunwoody Baptist Church, 1145 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338.
