From a young age, David found solace and strength in his faith in God. He dedicated himself to studying the Bible and was an active member of Stephen's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. David's deep devotion guided him to teach Sunday School for many years sharing his knowledge and love for God with his community. He was a devout Man of God. David was a distinguished individual who achieved great academic success throughout his life. He attended Cobb High School in Anniston, AL, where he excelled both in the classroom and on the football field. His determination and hard work earned him the honor of being named the Valedictorian of his graduating class. As the captain of the Cobb High School Panthers football team, he exhibited leadership, teamwork, and a passion for the sport. David was known for his kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. A humble and gracious man, he served as a supportive landlord and touched the lives of many in his community and even beyond, having also lived in Pine Bluff, AR. His empathetic spirit drew people towards him, seeking his compassionate listening ear and wise advice. After receiving a full scholarship, David became a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where he garnered many accolades in his football career. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education. David spent years as a lifeguard as he was an outstanding swimmer. He taught his three children to swim. Throughout his professional career, David worked as a Supervisor at AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals in Columbus, MS, where he dedicated his efforts until his well-deserved retirement. His work ethic and dedication were admired by colleagues and friends alike. David loved staying up to date with what was going on in the world, which made him a staunch news fanatic with his favorite channel being MSNBC. David Solomon Murray, a compassionate and loving soul, peacefully departed this life on December 12, 2023, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Once accepting his Master's call, David was reunited with his parents, Otis, and Willie Murray, brothers, Otis Murray II, Darnell Murray, and Roosevelt Murray, and sisters May Murray and Mary Burt. Beyond his professional achievements, David cherished and loved his family above all else. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Paula Boyd of McKinney, TX, (Michael Boyd) who will forever hold the memories of her father in her heart; two loving sons, David Murray II of Whitfield, MS and Mark Murray of Riverton, Utah; his brother, Larry Murray of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Thelma Handley of Talladega, AL and Doris Lewis of Birmingham, AL. The legacy of David's love extends to his grandchildren, Rachele' Cannon, Gerrod Stevenson, Christopher Renfro (Rachel Renfro), David Murray, Mark Murray, and Gabriel Murray; two great-grandchildren Jace Cannon and Drew Brittain who were all deeply cherished by their grandfather and great-grandfather. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and all those whose lives he selflessly touched along his journey especially Imeka, Maleek, India, and Bubba. David's unwavering faith, love, and compassion will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. My Condolences to the Murray Family. I remember
David from my childhood. We called him "Duke."
He was our Life Guard and Swimming Instructor at
Carver Center Swimming Pool. He taught most of the children in Cooper Homes and the neighborhood how to swim. He would teach every Summer when school was out for the summer. Although we only had to pay $.25 in those years we paid and will never forget the care and patience that he gave to each child learning to Swim.

Duke and I were always tight and close buddies. We had a science class taught by Mr. Albert White who gave us the task of making a rocket ship for display on a science project which won 1st place. We got a B out of Mr. Whites class for our work on that project which made us even closer buddies.
