Michael Shands Obituary

Michael Jerome Shands departed his earthly home to join his heavenly home on Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born on June 4, 1982, to Michael Lawrence and the late Priscilla Shands. Everyone who knew Mike, affectionately called "The Mizz," recognized him as a brilliant individual with a passion for math. He was incredibly caring and loving, always able to bring a smile to anyone's face with his endless jokes. Mike knew and loved God and shared his wisdom generously. His loyalty to family and friends was unparalleled. As the "Big Dawg" of the family, despite being the youngest, he confidently assumed the role of leader. Mike consistently checked in on his loved ones, even amidst his own challenges, and never missed a holiday celebration. In addition to his mother, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alonzo and Zeppy Shands. He leaves behind a devoted family: his father, Michael Lawrence; sisters, Debreda Shands and Zenith Shands (Brad Littlejohn); nieces and nephews, Diamond Shands (Dazijah), Allonzo Shands, Brad Shands (Josselyn), Jaqualla Shands, Zamia Shands, and Omarion Shands; great-nieces and great-nephews, Xenovia Shands, Amirar Shands, Ayden Shands, Jayden Shands, Brad Shands, Jr., Melody Shands, Jakari Shands, and Xayonna Shands. Also cherishing his memory are his significant other, Jamie Blocker, and her children; special friends, Mauries Robinson, Richard Giest, and Meka Ellis; his favorite classmate, Crystal Shaw; along with numerous extended family members and friends. Whether he was blasting music, cracking jokes, dressing fly, or supporting those he loved, Michael ensured his presence was felt. Although we now feel his absence deeply, we will honor his memory by transforming tears into toasts, pain into playlists, and silence into stories that keep Michael's legacy alive. Rest easy, Big Mike-your legacy is loud, and your love is eternal. Viewing will be from 4:00-6:00pm Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service.
