Stephen RICHENS Obituary

RICHENS,
Stephen Raymond (Steve):
Passed away unfairly on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, surrounded by family at Christchurch Hospital, aged 66 years. The much loved husband, best mate and travel companion of Robyn; father and role-model to Matt and Andrew, and the best father-in-law to Lisa and Kathleen. He was "Gorgeous Grandad" to Rivers, Star, Canyon, North, Fjord, Harper and Archie; a loved son, brother-in-law, uncle, and a great mate to many. His 66 years were far too short but he lived 100 years' worth of adventures, travel, friendship and golf in an inspiring life. The family would like to thank all the staff who looked after Steve this week for their efforts and care. Messages to the Richens Family, C/- 19 London Street, Christchurch 8013. A Memorial Service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at the Waimairi Beach Golf Club, 460 Bower Avenue, Christchurch, on Tuesday, September 28. In accordance with COVID regulations, attendance will be by family invitation only. A great friend of my dad (Paul Ward). A member of the BFD's. They used buy houses together with two others and rent them out. Steve became my advisor for my life insurance, Kiwi saver etc and he had been doing that for close to 20 years. He had a great sense of humour especially when I forgot I had 16k in an account. I also managed to bump into him at the Marlborough Wine and Food Festivals or Seafest. I was drinking at both so don't remember which one.
I set everything up so mum (Marie Ward) and dad could watch
Steve's service (Dad is not well) and so I hope Steve realises he would have packed the service many times over and will be very very much missed.

Sincerely Diane Ward, Paul Ward, Marie Ward

I was stunned to hear of Steve's premature passing. My/our deepest condolences to you Robyn and family. My association with Steve goes back many years in the Insurance Industry and more recently playing Golf. One hell of a competitor was Steve.
He had a very positive outlook on life and had planned well for his retirement.

My old mate Stevie. You were one of the good ones. Tash and I will have a cheers for you on Tuesday since we never got to do it in person. I remember you telling me about 30 years ago "every day above ground is a good day". You sure lived your life that way. Inspiring actually. You'll never be forgotten, and will be sorely missed. Rest in Love Steve
