To Peter, Phil had just rehomed his parents and spoke a week before he left us about his Christchurch upbringing. He found out recently from his father of his early connections with the Motueka area but wondered where his family home was. He was searching. You have met Phil again through this page. You do know him well. He was the rare kind of person who when you met him, it felt like you had known him for ever. A kindred spirit of many.

His laugh and smile will live on in my memory, the nights spent talking, drinking and partying are fond memories of my youth. I'll think of Philby everytime I hear a Black Sabbath song

A true warrior to humanity. This world could do with many more men of his calibre and wisdom. An empathetic healer, story teller, friend and colleague. The harshness of life brings forth the best in a person. Phil achieved more than we can imagine, with the humility of a saint. He knew his stuff. We treasured witnessing that greatness in action. Thank you teacher! An example to behold. RIP
