Dale Brown Rest in Peace, you will be sadly missed.
To me, Dale was the epitome of what it was to work for the WDC, and I am saddened that due to circumstance outside our control I will not be able to be present for his funeral.
After working at the CCC for some 18 years I joined the team at the WDC in 1999 where I stayed until I retired in 2018.
I found the WDC to be a refreshing change with a strong sense of comradeship, cooperation and friendly rivalry, and Dale, was, without a doubt on of those persons who contributed to this work ethic in no small way. He loved his job, (well most of the time), and could be counted on to go out of his way to help anyone that needed it and was never afraid of hard work.
His knowledge of the district was detailed and in the early days I knew I could always call on him for help and advice which would be given without hesitation or criticism in any form, even if I was asking what to Dale appeared to be the obvious!
Back in 1999 the Council had a strong social rivalry between its various office (Kaiapoi, Southbrook, Rangiora and Oxford ) and Dale was one of the first to get involved with the organising and execution of the many events on the council's social calendar, and was not afraid to get dressed up and take part in the many skits that were performed for the enjoyment of others. This dedication and involvement continued until I retired and I am sure would have continued until Dale retired himself.
Words seen futile at this time, but please take solace in the fact that Dale was considered to be one of the good guys, and will be sorely missed as both a workmate and a friend by so many people both within the Council and in his community as a whole.
Alison's and my heart goes out to you Margaret and all Dale's whanau at this sad and troubled time, and I can only hope that his love for you all, your memories and the love and support of all your family and friends will help come to terms with his sad passing.
Colin and Alison Bryant.
