Death Notice

KING, Bertram Alfred (Bert):
Born at home on May 12, 1920, on the Sara Ranch (Madera, California). Died on January 15, 2021, at his home (Nelson Creek, New Zealand). Bert was in his 101st year of life. He was raised during the great depression by his grandparents. Bert is especially loved and treasured by his wife Barbara (Nelson Creek), as well as his late wife, from his first marriage, Maryneil (USA). Much loved father of Terry King and Susanne Chandler (USA), and father-in-law of Michelle King (USA). Loving friend and stepfather of Damian and Kate Paine (Cambridge, NZ), and Rhonda and Neville Faith (Christchurch, NZ). Loved Gramps of Danielle and Phil Wehr (Washington State), Jennifer and Crispin Pavelslci (California). Loved Granpa of Adam and Sara Chandler (California), Scott Chandler (deceased). Treasured Granpa of Lincoln Faith (Christchurch, NZ), Hannah, Carter and Lucy Paine (Cambridge, NZ). Much loved great-Gramps of Gracie, Olivia and Lucas Wehr (Washington State), Samuel and Vincent Pavelski (California), and Addison and Blake Chandler (California). Much loved special friend of Jon Klienert (Madera, California). Bert was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Merchant Marines, serving as a Lieutenant JG in the Pacific. In civilian life Bert was a renowned Civil Engineer, who loved his work, designing and building very large engineering infrastructure, working in many countries. He built, for example, some of the USA freeway systems, power plants, bridges, he organized and moved super large equipment across the USA. He worked in the Oil Industry for many years, as an engineer for Mobil Oil, as well he worked in the Nasa Space Programme. He especially enjoyed moving every space shuttle on the piggy back 747 aircraft, from California to return to Florida, for re-launch, into space. He personally knew all the astronauts, and proudly told of the astronauts meeting all his USA family. Bert was a extraordinarily giving and generous gentleman, noble, gentle and kind in sprit, always caring about others. He enjoyed his life always. He was very disciplined in life, an early riser, organized, a forward planner, reliable, and responsible, up and dressed every day until his last day on this planet, when he died at, as he often said, 100 and a bit years old. He was so proud to be a centenarian. Thanks to the Moana District Nurses, and to Dianne and Vicki for the personal care they gave Bert. Bert's funeral service will be held at the Anisy Funeral Home, 77 Shakespeare St, Greymouth, on Saturday, January 23, at 10.30am. Respectively send messages to Anisy Funeral Home, Greymouth.
