James Vahey, III Obituary

STRAFFORD – James (Jigger) Andrew Vahey III, 90, passed away Thursday July 11. 2019 at his home following a period of failing health with his loving family at his side.

Born January 14, 1929, in Watertown, Massachusetts.  He was the son of the late James Andrew Vahey Jr. and Ruth Divver Vahey. Jigger graduated from Dorchester High School. He served as a Corporal in the Army from 1953 to 1955 followed by 8 years in the Army Reserves. He spent working days in sales and management with the Wonder Bread and Land O’Lakes companies. Jigger was most happy playing golf with his lifelong friends and family. Impressively, his golf success stories are his 6 career hole-in-ones, multiple golf championships throughout his life-time, and most notable his recent hole-in-one at the age of 86. If you golfed with Jigger, you were in awe of his “million dollar” putts and chips earning him the nickname “The Legend or The Wizard”.  He was a longtime member of Rochester Country Club, Cochecho Country Club and Citrus Hills Golf Club.

He is predeceased by his loving wife Jeanine.  Members of his family include Sheila Vahey of Strafford; and James Vahey IV and wife Joan of Concord, Mass.; his step daughter Dellann Jewell and husband Bruce of Rochester;  his grandchildren include Jodie Daudelin and husband Douglas, Joshua Hale, Torey Portrie-Bethke and husband Jerid, Stephen Portie II and wife Carrie,  Madeleine Vahey, and James Andrew Vahey V (Seamus), his great grandchildren Codi and Kianna Daudelin, Joshua Hale, Jr and Tyler, and Ashton, Addison and Preston Bethke, and his dear niece Cathy Hutchins.

Dear Daudelin/Vahey Family: May Jim Rest In Peace. He always had time to stop and chat usually ending with a laugh. Nice to see he was doing what he loved for a very long time. Along with watching the Grands at their games. Till we meet again. Peace
