He will be missed by 24 great-nieces and nephews and 20 great-great-nieces and nephews. While he is on the fairway to heaven his lifelong golfing buddies, who were brothers to him, will miss his stories and his dedication to the game. His absence will be mourned by his high school friends from St. Gerard High School and all his Catholic community at Our Lady of Gudalupe Church in Helotes.
Charles was born and raised in San Antonio Texas. He graduated from St. Gerard High School in 1958. After graduating he joined the US Army in 1960 where he was active duty until 1963 and in Army Reserves until 1966. He spent much of his time in New York state while serving as assistant to the chaplain, but he loved Texas and came home as soon as he could.
Charles worked hard all his life and began working for General Electric from 1964 until he retired in 1998. He was very technologically savvy and worked with computers most of his GE career. He received many awards and commendations during this time.
Charles had a passion for golf during his adult life. He enjoyed many adventures in his golfing career traveling with friends to various places to golf. Everyone knew on Monday morning he would be on the course with his friends
Charles always enjoyed attending class reunions with his St. Gerard classmates. Seeing everyone and catching up was a source of great joy and fun for him.
Charles was devout in his Catholic faith and ushered and attended Mass every Saturday evening at Our Lady of Guadalupe. His Saturdays were planned around Holy Mass.
Charles loved his two older brothers and as the years went by when they began having trouble with vision or driving, he was always willing to help them in any way he could. His love of family was evident in many ways, one of which was his study of our family history and genealogy. He researched and collected many volumes of information concerning the Buckley family.
Charles regularly visited his family on Wednesday evenings. He always came up with a joke or a piece of advice about how to use the iPhone. If you knew Charles Buckley, or Uncle Dee Dee as he was known to his family, you knew he was loving, witty, entertaining, comical and always made Wednesday family fun night and something for us to look forward to every week! He will be truly missed by all of us who were blessed with his cheerful company on Wednesdays and every day.

I knew Charles from a young age, back in early 70's. I always enjoyed talking with him when my mom would occasionally take to work with her at General Electric. Charles was always willing to let me see all of the medical equipment in inventory and was quite patient with me - a kid that like to touch buttons and mess with electronics!
I had opportunities to interact with him less frequently as I grew up and moved on with my own life. However, I did often hear his name in conversations with my mother, Kathleen. Charles was always a dear friend to my mom and never failed to miss sending her a birthday email. I know this as now my mom has her own health battles and I help her with many things including email.
I was looking forward to sharing Charles' email birthday wishes with my mom, but it didn't arrive this year. My wife & I both were very saddened to learn of his passing. Condolences to the Buckley clan from the Legg's.

Charlie, a St. Gerard classmate and very dear friend, was a faithful friend to so many. Quiet, with a quirky smile, he was always present and supportive to so many. I will miss him more than I ever thought--after all, I will no longer sit next to the likes of him! Be on my welcome committee up above, Charlie; you made it first.
