Annette Marie Carter (Martinka), of Grand Blanc, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at her home.
Born September 17, 1950, to Gus and Irene (Hudecek) Martinka, Annette was a beacon of strength and admiration to her family. As a daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she touched the lives of everyone in her family circle with her unwavering love and support.
Annette's dedication to her work at General Motors spanned nearly 49 years, where she was not just an employee but a trusted mentor and friend. Her colleagues will deeply miss her, remembering her for the countless suggestions she made to improve GM and her exemplary work ethic. Annette accepted every accolade with humble gratitude, cherishing each recognition personally.
Those who knew Annette will always remember her as the “toughest and most fearless woman” they had the honor of knowing. She lived her life with purpose, rarely indulging in vacations or taking anything for granted.
Beyond her professional life, Annette found immense joy in her kitchen. She had a magical touch with recipes, adding a dash of this and a drop of that to create unbelievably delicious meals. Her holiday table displays were a feast for the eyes, along with her massive annual Christmas tree bringing joy and delight to her family.
Annette leaves behind her loving husband Larry Carter; sons Phillip (Stacy) Gillman of Grand Blanc and Richard “Rick” Carter of Phoenix, AZ; grandsons Blake and Bryce Gillman; brother Mike Martinka; sister Marie (Randy) Braeutigam; sister-in-law Jean Martinka; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents Gus and Irene Martinka; parents-in-law Richard “Dick” and Janice Carter; brother Gus Martinka; and her uncle George Martinka, with whom she shared a special bond.
In accordance with Annette’s wishes, cremation will take place, and there will be no funeral or memorial services. Those wishing to honor her memory may consider a donation to the GoFundMe Carter Fund to help alleviate medical financial commitments.

I worked with Annette at the Buick Transmission Plant. At that time the vast majority of production supervisors were men. Annette was not surpassed by any of them (including me)! Truly, one of the most genuine and sincere individuals I have ever known. I will remember her fondly.

I was older than Annette and Gus but both of them played accordion and drums with me as an accordionist at my recital at the Flint Music Center. Those two were so much fun and very talented and the night we played the recital those two kids made their Mom and Dad very proud. My folks were also along and we all went for burgers after the recital. My folks were friends of Annette's parents. My sympathy to Annette's family and especially to her sister, Marie, who is married to my cousin, Randy.

Incredible person. Always ready to share a story or offer advice personally and/or professionally. Worked together on and off since 1999 and was always showing a great example of work ethic and drive and teamwork. Will miss all the colorful conversations.

Beautiful, funny, Annette. When it came to business, Annette did not mess around. She was a protector. The First Lady I worked with at General Motors. I learned so much from Annette in the Supplier Quality organization. She taught me a lot and shaped me into the Supplier Quality Engineer I am today. You will be missed my friend.

I will greatly miss Annette. She was my Group Leader/ boss o e of the best I've had in r7 year's at GM. She was very smart, hard worker and quick on her feet. She wasn't shy to say what was on her mind. But was also hilarious with some of her comments. She also had a good heart and was always able to help any of her GM family.
