(Vietnam War 161 Battery 41399). Peacefully on July 17, 2022 at Anthony Wilding Retirement Village with family by his side. A loved and loving husband of Brenda for 50 years. Very much-loved Dad of Paul and Kirsten. Adored granddad of Mykayla and Hannah Newton, Sean and Gemma Maguire. Also loved by Andrea, Charlene and Scott. Loved brother-in-law of Helen and John Webster, Grant and Sue Taylor, and loved by his niece, nephews and extended family here and in Australia. Friend of many. In lieu of flowers, donations to St John's would be appreciated and may be made at the service. Messages may be addressed to the Family of the Late William Newton C/- Hope Funerals Christchurch, 27 Amyes Road, Hornby, Christchurch 8042. Bill and I shared a room in Cambrai Barracks in Waiouru back in 1968. We were in the same tank crew and at one time when Bill was driving he stuck his head out of the hatch whilst I was traversing the gun and Bill got a head injury. Always wondered where he ended up. Never saw him again after Vietnam. RIP mate.
