William HARTLEY Obituary

Richard passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 2, 2024, aged 87. The date coincides with the birthday of his late wife, Elizabeth. We're not sure if he wanted to surprise her or if he was summoned; we suspect the latter. Born in 1936 in Ermelo, South Africa; Richard emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1988. His education, curiosity, and deep sense of responsibility for his family led him to travel widely and live abroad. While he enjoyed all that New Zealand offered, his heart remained deep in the African bushveld. Loved by his sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Sarah; and Christopher and Kate. A very special 'Ganfy' to Cameron, Eila, Isabel, Emily and Ethan. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and all those he shared his journey with. In lieu of flowers, donations to Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust would be appreciated: https://www.rescuehelicopter.org.nz/ A celebration of Richard's life will be held at All Saints Birkenhead, 187 Hinemoa St, Birkenhead on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 1.00pm. All welcome.
