Warren TAYLOR Obituary

TAYLOR, Warren Thomas:
18 August 1927 -
22 April 2023
Warren passed away peacefully at George Manning Rest Home on Saturday evening; in his 96th year. The most loved husband of the late Nancy. Awesome Dad and father-in-law of Pru and Martyn, Murray and Derryn, and a very treasured and funny Pa of Henri and Claudia, Millie and Lewis and partners, and great-grandad of Freddy and Olly. Warren was born in Everard Street, Spreydon (as he'd say, born at Auntie's) but spent most of his younger years on Huntsbury Hill. He attended Technical College before embarking on a lengthy career in menswear or the Rag Trade as he called it. Nance and Warren retired to Greta Valley where they lived life to the fullest and made many friends. School holidays with Granny and Pa were always fun creating many fond memories for the grandkids. Warren was one of life's true gentlemen - a racing, rugby and beer bloke with a whisky chaser - you can't fly on one wing! He would tell the most wonderful stories with many a witty ditty to boot but the Tote has finally closed. Thank you to the lovely staff at George Manning who cared for Warren in his later years. Messages to the Taylor family, c/- PO Box 111-01, Christchurch 8443. A private cremation has been held.

Uncle Warren, how do we express our love & thankfulness to you? How very lucky we were to have had you in our lives. Oh the memories, there are many. How happy we all were when you were around, the laughter (boy there was lots of it), your tweed Pommy Stetson hats, your love animals, Sunday 11's at Frankeigh St, the chicken chip nights when the 4 of you arrived at Howard the pub, the holidays & adventures we shared and your friendship to Mum & Dad. You simply were the best! Chris & Teena remember your speech at their wedding, the whole room was in hysterics when you talked about Chris being conceived on the Coast and beind nicknamed the Westport kid. Oh there's so many more cherished memories which will live on forever. Uncle Warren, you loved your family beyond measure & we feel we were lucky enough to experience this love too. You were a man of great integrity, who loved a good laugh, the races, rugby, a cold beer and let's not forget a scotch or two. You were one of life's gentlemen and a true loyal friend. Our love goes out to Prue, Martyn, Murray & Derryn & family. xxxx R.I.P. Uncle Warren, you will be so missed xxxx

Dad´s other favourite - Highland Fling winning the `48 Trotting Cup in world record time. Warren loved the trots at Addington and gallops at Riccarton. I´ll always treasure the days (and nights) at the races with him and his mates. So many great memories and regardless of the result, we´d always enjoy a debrief over a jug.

Dad had many friends both 2 and 4 legged but his favourite was always Ross of Huntsbury Hill fame.
