Dear Walter,
You left us forever now. A voice that was familiar is no longer there. What remains are the memories of the beautiful time together that we could spend together. May God accompany your soul. Peace in peace, in silent grief.

It is many years ago that I met my uncle Walter in Christchurch as a wonderful host for two days. I remember sitting in his garden surrounded by his chucks (chicken), where he told me the long story of his life, from immigrating to Australia and NZ with his pregnant wife and growing up his children to adults in a complete new environment. I could feel the passion and pride for his family in each sentence and enjoyed the stories about his past in Germany. With Walter we lose the centre of a strong cross continent Goettler relation.

Onkel Walter, you were the only person mit der ich Denglish sprechen konnte. Perfekt for understanding. It was a certain kind of Beziehung (relationship). So far away from Neckarsulm und doch so near when I stayed and met you in 2003 :-) Very familiar, very wie mein Dad, Onkel Fred. Ich fühl(t)e mich Dir very nah. Your home is now everywere, in N.Z., in Australia, in Neckarsulm and in our hearts. Ulrike Göttler, born in Neckarsulm and daughter of Fred Göttler, your brother, mother of Lisa and Anna.

Always remembered as being devoted to his family, willing to lend a hand and share his experiences and engineering know-how. Walter's sense of humour and warm chuckle lit up the room.
