Valmai PONSONBY Obituary

I was very sorry to hear that Val had died. I am thinking of you all especially John and Marie Begbie.

Sending my condolences and love to all in the Ponsonby family. Your mother was a lovely person, who did so much for her community. She was a good friend to my mother, and I have fond memories of some big Sunday dinners at both our homes. So sad that I didn't get to pay my respects at her funeral, but have only just seen her obituary tonight. Sending love to you all xxx

You were a remarkably strong woman who not only nurtured her family, but also the community with your work.
The last of a generation has now passed.

Knowing Val and your family for over 50 years, it is with some sadness that Vals life journey is over. She was the glue that held you all together, an amazing mother and Granma. Surely missed but her memory will always be cherished in your hearts. Rip Val in your new eternal life.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Jo, Garry and family...sorry to hear of your mums passing Jo. She was a lovely lady and a fantastic neighbour to my mum Doris Barnes. Although she was not well her self she still popped into see my mum with a meal or two and some other goodies. A true caring lady. Our thoughts are with you all.

Aunty Valmai was a much loved sister-in-law of Kevin and Alice and a beloved Aunty to all her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and faith. End of a wonderful era. Rest in peace and love.

Passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023 in Timaru. Loved sister and sister-in-law of Martin and Rosemary Mehrtens, Graham and Kathleen Mehrtens, Ian and Pam Mehrtens, Jack and Margaret Ponsonby, David and Jean Ponsonby, Jim and Maureen Ponsonby, Ted and Bonnie Ponsonby, Kevin and Alice Ponsonby, Mary and Jim Hassan, Sr Peter Chanel (Margaret Ponsonby), Maud and Jack Sheely, Ray and Ruth Ponsonby, Moira and Steve Mangan. All deceased. Loved Aunty and Great-Aunty of many nieces and nephews. R.I.P. Will be sadly missed. "End of a Generation"
