As my first teacher in Cardiology and Respiratory medicine in the University of Otago Medical School and Dunedin Hospital in the 1960s,Tom O'Donnell was in every way and at all times a very precise, clear and superb communicator and thorough-going fine clinical specialist, and one of the most humane clinicians I have encountered. His smile and wonderful sense of humour I am certain will also be remembered by his legions of admiring and highly respectful patients. To this day, I thank God for Tom, a truly marvellous man.
