Oh Tom, I will miss our chats, the twinkle in your eye, the smile on your face when you recognized that we were coming to see you and the total adoration all over your face when we talked about Rosemary, your girls and grandchildren. I could see you were a devoted husband and dad and a passionate St Johns driver. It has been a pleasure to get to know you and Rosemary. To discover our connection through the farms at Spotswood, you were a beautiful link to my late grandad. Sorry I can't be at your service but my greatest joy is knowing that you are now with jesus and Rosemary. Your race is over, good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.

Best uncle ever, even though you didn't always have enough beer in the fridge to gain Dick's approval :)

Such good stories too.

We had a traumatic time on the Hurunui River. One incident was in trying to resuscitate a friend. I have never ever forgotten Tom arriving in the ambulance.... how incredibly kind, reassuring and utterly lovely he was as he competently stepped in. We formed a very special bond from then on. My Mum Dot Davies, nee Wilkinson grew up with the Barnes kids and remembers so much fun and closeness and respect. What a lovely human being... wish we had so many more like this man.

Uncle Tom,
You were a constant in my life. I will never forget your infectious, mischievous laugh. Nor your stories, twinkling eyes or the way you ate an apple.
I love you and already miss you. Thank you...

We didn´t share blood ties but you were our grandpa all the same. You played with us and built cool stuff with us in your garage. You took us for a ride in your jeep and on your back. We sat on your knee or ate from your hands. Those were the most beautiful memories which will stay with us. Love you always
