I extend my sympathy to Tommy's family. I attended Springbank School with Tommy in the 1950's. He was four years older than me but with only about 30 children in the school I remember well his rugby prowess. We were so impressed with the ability of a 12 year old to kick goals from almost 40 metres with bare feet. I saw Tom once after we were at school at a representative cricket match for boys at Rangiora. I was amazed at the man that he had become and the service he provided for the sporting community of Buller. Life wasn't easy for him as he grew up but he didn't let that limit his influence and impact in life. I'm privileged to have known him.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family, he was a really great man and will miss his banter at the Club Buller.
