Thelma PENNEY Obituary

On July 11, 2023, at Nurse Maude Hospital, surrounded by family, in her 98th year. Beloved daughter of Alma and Ted Mehrtens (both deceased), loved wife of the late David, loved mother and mother-in-law of Brenda (deceased) and John Hansen, John and Caroline, Christine, Bruce and Julie, Rob and Erin, and loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Thanks to the staff at Nurse Maude Hospital for their care of Ruth. Messages may be addressed to The Family of the late Ruth Penney, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to either Nurse Maude Association, or Breast Cancer Canterbury A Memorial Celebration of Ruth's life well lived, will be held in our Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on This Day (Monday), at 2.00pm. Noel and I offer our sincere sympathy on the passing of dear Ruth.
Our family´s have had close links over time.
Noel´s family were friends with the Penney´s during their Kirwee and Avonhead days. Ruth bought my mother´s town house in Withell´s Road and we are now linked through Ken Thompson ,Noel´s cousin, by marriage.
We watched the live stream and you all did Ruth proud. A very warm and caring celebration of Ruth´s life.
Our thoughts are with you as you come to terms with the passing of your family´s strongest link pin.

Our family has lovely memories of Ruth and the Penney family having picnics, camping at Woodend, meals together, church involvement at St Marks Withells road during the 1960s and 70s. Ruth has continued to be one of my mother's close friends. To the Penney family we are sad for your loss.
