It's months now since he passed and since the fantastic celebration of his life which you all organised (it was wonderful to be there). I just wanted to add a wee message here as I've been thinking about Terry and Awaroa Lodge today. I first met Terry when he approached me to do the New Year's Eve gig at Awaroa Lodge (while I was singing a song in Christchurch's Cathedral Square!). Terry had a feather in his cap, which was set at a jaunty angle, and a big grin on his face. How could we say no! We never did the New Year gig but we were the band for the infamous Moa Hunt. Thus started a very meaningful friendship which lasted for many years. Terry was the caterer for my first wedding at the Homestead in Totaranui and we would catch up whenever I was in Nelson or ran into him at the market. We always had deep heart-to-heart conversations and I really appreciated that he confided some of his thoughts about some of the sad things that he had been through. He would always get straight to the point with his questions for me, but with great warmth and compassion. He had a generosity of spirit and a mischievousness which made him fantastic company. I can still see him in my mind's eye on the quad bike barrelling down Awaroa Beach. I can also see him sitting by the fire after a day of looking after guests. Sending the family love and I hope you are all doing ok as the months pass xxxx

We are blessed to have enjoyed a delicious lunch every Mother's Day in the early days of Awaroa Lodge, when life was still simple. Terry was the icing on the cake, a charming host under the mantle of the native bush and his holistic buildings. Terry has left enthusiasm and dreams which will be realised, with his guidance, and a little help from Kiwi Spirit.

Terry you were an absolute force of nature. Generous, wild and never afraid of an opportunity! I guess this means there will be no wheelchair races. Thinking of you and your family. Lots of love.

Condolences to the family for such a sudden and tragic passing. I have sweet memories of Awaroa days - where anything was possible. Terry and Warren (now in hospital) were a creative force. Yes, he was a legend, an absolutely outrageous man with a lot of cheeky bundled up in that body. Always big hearted and positive. He will be missed by many. I have many memories of Terry (in Golden Bay and Nelson), the majority very pleasant. He was a real character and entrepreneur, most of the time full of zeal.
I hope you are in a pleasant place Terry.

During his time as one of the partners establishing the Awaroa Lodge and Café Terry was an elemental force of nature: always seemed to be the first about in the morning and the last to bed, after swabbing the café floors: a tremendously hard worker. He generously shared his immense knowledge of building and sourcing equipment that was difficult to find, much to the benefit of people like us, building baches in this remote area. To his children, Jeremy, Isabella and Oliver, we remember Terry very fondly and offer our deepest sympathy on his death.

Terry was a great friend in my younger days and always full of fun. Memories are swiming at the Ashley, Cashmere ice rink, and drinking Bourbon and helping with Gone Heavy his dads boat. Wished we had caught up sooner.

I was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Terry. I only met and chatted him once at the post-ride celebration lunch for the World Naked Bike Ride in March 2024. Terry and the distillery have been keen supporters of the event for many years. A man of great cheer and conviviality.

Sincere condolences to Jeremy, Isabella and Oliver at this difficult time. Terry certainly will be missed by the community at Golden Bay.

I would like to wish my deepest condolences to Jeremy and the rest of the family on this sad occasion.
I met Terry and managed to have an interview with him after the World Naked Bike Ride in 2024, the celebration of 20 years in the region.

Terry was a welcoming host, and larger than life it seemed, embracing the spirit of the region with gusto.
He will be sorely missed by everyone, and I hope his legacy will endure through ages to come.

So sorry to hear that Terry has passed away. He was a friend of my late parents, Del and Yvonne Noakes and of myself Mara Breidenbach (Marama Noakes) because I now live overseas I´ll be unable to make it on Saturday. I´m sure the people of Golden Bay and beyond will give Terry the best send off. R.I.P Terry
