We are sorry to hear of the sad passing of Stephen. We have alot of fond memories as children growing up with the Merricks on Grimseys Road. Simple fun times. Will always be remembered. Kind Regards from the family of Horrie & Marjorie Dixon.

Gaye, Fi Masters here (Jenice & Glen's daughter), I'm so so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He was such a kind and caring man - he tried so hard to talk me out of being a nurse! I can still see his face and hear his voice. Thinking of you Gaye and sending lots of love and big hugs.

I was just thinking of Steve the other day and thought I saw someone like him in Christchurch Hospital. He was so helpful to me on ward 18 and was often seen pushing patient's beds around so that we could admit another patient! He loved to sit quietly during his breaks with a book and we'd hear about Gaye and Jasmine. He knew orthopaedics and was a great resource person. R.I.P Steve.

Gaye so sorry to hear that Steve has passed away. It was a shock to hear such sad news, he was such a nice genuine guy. Steve will live on in the good memories and times that we have had with him. Also the rhubarb plant which I call Steve has always flourished since he gave it to me many years ago, hope it will continue to do so in his memory. Cant imagine how you must be feeling right now, just hope that you have good support over there and to know that your NZ friends are here for you as well.
Our heartfelt condolences to you and the family.

Dear Gaye and family. I wanted to express and past on my sympathies on hearing that Steve has passed away. A few of us were reminiscing our days together with Steve on Ward 18. You are right a gentle kind man whom I am sure will be missed very much.

My sister told me Stephen had passed away. My condolences. We all had great times in those early years at Grimseys rd (2-5 years old). Finding dead eels in the "creeks". Clod and pear fights in Ridings. Roaming the paddocks. I remember down the back, there was an old pot of fat we would make a small fire, dig potatoes straight from the field and sort of fry them. Good memories.
