I have only just heard of Simon's passing. Oh that is really sad, so young and such a wonderfully kind generous person.

I'm sure we all loved Killick Place and wished we were back there Simon, those were our care free days, it's a pity we all had to grow up next door neighbour, I'll always remember those days, fly free even though you were in the navy

We were so saddened to hear of Simon's passing.

I just wanted to write and tell you how grateful I was to Simon taking Joe under his wing when he went to Auckland as a student. He gave him a place to live and a job and they formed a great friendship and special bond. He often took Joe out on the town and had many a social night at the Thirsty Dog.

Joe loved his time at the bar on K Road - especially Poetry Night Lol.

Every Tuesday Simon would check in with Joe, laughing.... Your night tonight mate.... that was Joe's rostered day on working behind the bar...no one else would do it...

And Kay (cousin) would always send Joe her encouraging text:
Rose are Red
Violets are Blue
It's Tuesday night poetry for you...

None of us will ever forget Poetry Night at the Thirsty Dog .
Simon had a soft spot for everyone.
The Patrons only ever drunk water.

He was a wonderful son and brother and I also remember he rang me one Christmas morning when I was unwell myself with that dreaded cancer. He told me he was very proud of Joe and loved having him around. When I visited Joe in Auckland at the bar, there was Simon at a large table surrounded by all his mates. He didn't hesitate to make room for me and welcomed me in with a warm hug. We shared a cider together and he called me Aunty!'
I only had brief moments with Simon but they were memorable and his kindness and friendship were so appreciated.

Joe visited him a couple of weeks ago and they spent the day together...he was terribly upset to see his cousin so unwell, but as Simon said Gotta have the faith Joe, gotta have the faith.... and you know....those who do have that faith always reach their destination. He's where he wants to be now, he just got there a bit sooner than the rest of us.

No doubt you will hear from others who will share stories that have formed Simon's life, this is just one very small part of something he did for us and we - Joe, Gabriella and I just want to say....
Thanks Simon.

Much love and hugs,
Lynette, Gabriella and JOE xoxo (Darryl's family)
