To the Carey family, I am writing this on behalf of the Heffernan family. Our parents Marg and Pat were great friends with Shona and as a result she became someone special to all of us. Her humour and intellect were just some of her wonderful gifts she readily shared, particularly when she lived in Lower Hutt. She would often come to mum and dads and we would play cards always with loads of chocolate and ice creams into the wee small hours. Her interest in all of us and the world at large was always keen along with the mutual interest in the horses and politics! I am sure she will leave a big gap in your family, especially her sister Pat. She spoke of you all often and was so proud of the next generation and all their achievements. We are grateful she was in our lives xx

Dear Aunty Shona, you will be greatly missed! I have very fond memories of plenty of your visits out to our farm when we were kids growing up. Mike O'malley and you would often pop out together. Some other great moments were the O'Malley reunion/clan gathering you masterminded, and as part of that performing in a small play, which i was very nervous about at the time! As well as researching and finding so much about our ancestry to share with the family. It was great for Lily and Hartley to meet you and spend time at your 80th birthday, from memory, Lou was excited to make your cake for that event too. With Nana(Maureen) and Pop(Bruce) gone very early in my life, you were my strong link to that generation of Dad's side of the family. Sorry I didn't keep in touch and visit more often. Rest in Peace - Josh

End of an era. Aunty Shona was a force to be reckoned with and holds a well earned place in NZ nursing history. She was also a family matriarch who valued the past, present and the future. Forever in our hearts.
