I know Seamus' students from around the world valued his contribution, and will sorely miss him.

Dear Helen, Sarah and family,
It was a big shock to hear of Seamus's death. It seems to be those who have so much to offer that get taken away so soon. He will certainly be missed by very many at University and wherever he devoted his energies and huge talents.
i remember him mostly as a musician firstly at CSM and as a fellow member of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. During breaks for tea or over a beer afterwards, Seamus's ready wit and stories kept us entertained.
More recently, I have enjoyed very mucch the string quartet sessions that we shared with some others dduring the last decade. We tackled many of the biggest peaks in the chamber music repertoire and generally managed to reach the ssummits of these, somehow. I will greatly miss Seamus, as will my son John, who was a long-time friend.
