At his home on Sunday, December 8, 2024, after months dancing with cancer, the music stopped. Grant, his husband and partner of 26 years, was with him as the lights were dimmed. Messages may be addressed to: The family of Russel Wedge, c/- PO Box 8718, Christchurch 8440. Russel will be remembered at a celebration of his life as a renaissance man, as adept playing the piano, or using his power tools, painting at his easel, or propagating plants, creating culinary delights, or being a thoughtful and caring friend. Russel's memorial will be held on Friday, January 31, at 10.30am, at The Piano, 156 Armagh Street, Christchurch.

Dear Russel, you inspired me for your capacity to make a decision w/o procrastination and too much talk - I am learning that skill. I appreciated your ability to be calm and to listen kindly. I also enjoyed a period of time walking with you around Hagley Park while you listened to me going on and on. Thank you. I have learnt from that. May you add to the place that you are now residing at. Regards, Derek

Russel - your parks vision and cultural embrace is clearly visible at Takapuneke reserve in Akaroa. Your guidance and input to this and many other parks across Christchurch will always echo your passion for parks and open space.
