I was saddened to find out today of Roy's passing.
I met him many years ago when he came cycling into my town of Cromwell.
What an inspiration he was. We had kept in touch with Facebook.
Condolences to his wife and family.

I feel that Roy was a soul brother to me. Physically I met him only twice. First time in 2008 on a road through wilderness in Finnish Lappland. Roy and Haruko were on tour in Nothern Europe and Roy told me that they were on the road to see farher christmas and also they were interested to see how people manage to live their heads upside down.

I told them that I've a secret plan to visit New Zealand after my retirement and have a tour around it. Roy told me that he had written a book of riding the road 6 in Southern Island and he promised to sent it to me and so he did.

In the beginning of 2011 I had my tour around both islands of NZ and met Roy and Haruko in Christchurch in the end of January. I had two nice days with Roy in his beautiful town.

Since that we were in contact in internet. I had a plan to revisit NZ with my wife some day, but most probably it won't come true in this life.

I wish all good for those whom Roy loved and especially to Haruko.

I was saddened to learn of Roys passing.
Roy was a valued member of the local rail fraternity and wrote several railway books
about NZ railways. He was also a supporter of the Weka Pass Railway for many years.
A quiet dignified gentleman of many talents,he will be missed.
Peter Gibson, former Chairman of Weka Pass Railway

So sorry to hear of Roy's passing. He is one cousin I remember well. We had fun many times at Nana's and Poppa's house in Centennial Ave, Riccarton. My thoughts are with John, Julie and Roy's family at this sad time
