Ron was a very nice genial man, very helpful, and always pleasant to deal with. He was my plant pathology lecturer at Lincoln College in 1973, and later a guide & supervisor when doing my Masters some years later. My condolences to his family, Ralph Scott, Plant & Food Research.

It is with much sadness we read of Ron's death. Ron was a wonderful colleague and mentor to many of us involved in plant pathology, plant protection and particularly plant virology. Our sincere sympathy to Ron's family and friends

Very sorry to hear the news about Ron and my thoughts are with you at this sad time. 'Uncle' Ron was an inspiration to me in my career in plant pathology and virology. Unfortunately I saw little of him due to our physical remoteness but I will always have fond memories of him.

My Best wishes to all in the Close and Robson families
