I knew Robbie Bloomfield when I joined in the scallop fleet in Nelson Motueka in the mid 1970,s onwards. He had about 6 boats at one time, Including the Karen Ann, Marina May, Shelly Marie, Ann Marie,Nickolene and others. He sold them to purchase the Shemara from Scotland. 1977. Like others I became involved in pairtrawling. A Noel Parsens from FIB. had designed a 4 seam net. Robbiw made a copy and we used it sucessfully to P.T. He also was involved in several tow and salvage jobs. Include the Asto Carina and the Mako. Always willing to help and seldom charged a fee. He was a icon in the Fishing industry and started off the hard way. A lot of respect for Robbie and what he did and what he tried to acheive. Now gone but not forgotten by many of us.
