Robert SUTHERLAND Obituary

Passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025; aged 76, at Bainswood on Victoria Resthome, Rangiora. Bob was a devoted husband to Carolyn, a loving dad to James and Julia, and a proud grandfather to Darcy, Violet, Tallulah and Otis. His Scottish heritage, passed down from his parents, was something he valued deeply and remained an important part of who he was. He was deeply loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Bob we will miss your irreverent humour that always shone through no matter what you were going through. That plus your kindness, wit and support won over many of us who worked with you. We are honoured to have called you Friend. Rest in Peace Bob

Bob had a great spirit and a sharp mind. It was a pleasure to visit Bob last year in NZ, along with my husband, Bob's cousin - James Taylor

This photo of cousin Robert and his parents, Uncle Jim and Aunt Edith, reached Scotland about 70 years ago. Many years later my late sister Margret stayed with the family in NZ. Then later, Robert travelled to Scotland and enjoyed visits with lots of relatives. It's been great reconnecting with Robert in recent years, chatting on video calls, and sharing family history.

Very sad to hear of your passing, you will be sadly missed,
Mum (your cousin Hazel) doesn't understand that you've gone to better place, as she herself has just been diagnosed with Dementia recently,
You came over to the Uk with your 1st wife, you hung out washing for my Mum in the garden,
you had a white/cream coloured VW Campervan & we as in Mum (your cousin Hazel) Dad & brother went up to Strathdon, to see family, Hazel was sick in the back of the camper van, Mum wasn't a good traveller on the twisty roads,
Hazel used to love receiving your letters every now & then, she was sad when we lost touch with you, but very happy to have found you again when we did,
My thoughts & prayers are with your family, sending lots of love, xx

Dad, I love you so much. Your final years with us were filled with so much joy. I cherish the time we got to spend together! I know you would have loved to have been been more hands on with the Grandkids, but your health just didn't allow for that. But dad, you made the best of your time with them that you could! We love you for that. We all miss you so very much. I miss the lunches out, hanging out watching those Netflix shows you enjoyed, dinners out..we definitely kept you busy right up til the end! Your quick wit never failed you either, you were the same wonderful and humourous dad you always were..right until the second your heart gave up - you'll certainly live on forever in the hearts of all of us though. Lots of love, I hope you're keeping an eye on us from wherever you are xxx

Aye Bob, your Scots family got better acquainted with you these last few years and we found out, not really to our surprise, that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Personally I found it a very rewarding experience to connect with you over these past 5 years and mutually enjoy each others dry cheeky wit. I am very sorry that you have departed as we all wanted more time in your warm embrace.
