Robert OAKLEY Obituary

Born March 8, 1929; died June 1, 2025. Bob was the son of Elsie and John Oakley of Ruapuna, brother to Freda, Dawn and Ida, and the late Joy. In 1956, Bob married his dearly loved wife, Elaine Dennis of Glenroy, who predeceased him in 2015. In the course of time they moved to Brackendale, near Glenroy, and farmed there, and they had four children: Peter, John, Harold, and Elizabeth. Bob was grandfather to Freya, Thomas, and Raymond, children of Peter and Suzanne; to Laura, Charlotte, and Robert, children of John and Marie; and to Arthur, son of John and Nicky; to Adelaide, Florence, Emily, Henry, and William, children of Harold and Relda; to Daniel, son of Elizabeth and the late Paul Bean; and to Holly, daughter of Elizabeth and the late Mark Harvey. He was great-grandfather to Edward Ashby, son of his granddaughter Florence. Until the end of his life, Bob was a member of several groups: he was at times treasurer of the Windwhistle School Committee, treasurer of Greendale Baptist Church, and treasurer of Christchurch Dickens Fellowship, of which he was a life member.
