A man of integrity and courage. Bob's dry humour lightened many a pressing day. In the mid 80s, George Twentyman gave Bob the task of implementing the requirements of Smoke Free legislation into the police in Christchurch. Bob, pretty much a chain-smoker at the time, stopped smoking overnight. Bob told me he had to be seen practising what he was implementing. Leadership - the most admirable quality among people in his position. The Retired Police Club will miss Bob. My thoughts and condolences are with you, Norma.

My sincere condolences to Norma and family at the passing of Bob, who I was privileged to have work for and with for many years. I'm sorry that I was not able to physically attend Bob's funeral on the day to pass on my condolences in person. Bob was a great role model, a very conscientious supervisor, and a very caring workmate, whose honesty and integrity was legendary. I will always remember Bob as a very intelligent, professional, well-read, very caring colleague with a dry, wry, infectious sense of fun, and an admirable instinct to engage directly with his workmates to provide a safe, comfortable, consistent work environment in a testing career that wasn't for the faint hearted. Bob will be remembered by all who knew him with great respect. Its never about whether you win or lose, its how you play the game. Rest in peace Bob. Kind regards, Dave Haslett
