I knew Bob for many years through basketball. Always competitive but fair player, good coach and the sane half of the commentating duo of Manthei and Seifert. Absolute gentleman off and on the court. Condolences to Marjorie and extended family.

Bob was one of Canterbury Basketball's finest and most genuine gentlemen. I had the privilege of knowing him during my time as a Canterbury Basketball player. A well-known Canterbury representative himself, Bob teamed up with Marshall Seifert to create a basketball commentary duo that was second to none, becoming a familiar presence in many New Zealand homes. His voice was part of some of the country’s greatest moments in sporting history. My sincerest condolences go out to Marjorie and the family.

I knew Bob via the basketball scene, beginning in 1974 Otago University v YMCA. I later played with Bob in YMCA Butler Auto Spares, during which time he took over as coach. Competitive and always fair, Bob passion for basketball was immense. Such a nice guy both on and off the court. Loved his basketball commentaries, along with Marshall Seifert. RIP Bob. Heart goes out to Marjorie.
