To leslie and your family
I'm saddened to hear of Bryan's passing and offer my condolences at your loss. From first meeting Bryan in Geraldine and subsequent meetings along the way I have always seen Bryan as a sunshine bringer, a positive force who brought out the best in people. I worked with Bryan at many incidents around the country and would rate him as the very best team leader over my career in DOC. Warm, compassionate, decisive and realistic with a great sense of humour. My thoughts are with you Leslie. RIP Bryan

Lesley and family, thinking of you and remembering Bryan. He was my Area Manager (Mahaanui) for several years. Ran good team meetings where everyone knew they were included and could speak (didn't need a fancy name or process for it, just got on with it). Had a great sense of humour. Was honest and didn't stand for unnecessary nonsense. Things could get lost on his desk though, you had to be watchful. Missed him when he left to take on other roles and since then he has continued to pop into my mind at various times. I also got do do various days of fieldwork, etc, with Lesley. Good times with both.
Take care you guys, and take time to grieve in your own way.

I worked with Bryan for a few years till his retirement from DOC. I loved his chuckle and gravelly voice, his kindness and patience. He was a lovely man! My condolences to the family for your huge loss.

Thinking of you Lesley and family at this time of loss. I'm so sad to learn of BJ's (Brian's) passing. He'll be remembered by the DOC Mahaanui team who he led as the Area Manager in Christchurch. We fondly remember him as a larger than life character, a caring and patient man, humorous and...occasionally forgetful. Photos are of Brian, other DOC staff and politicians on Akaroa Harbour in August 2009 and June 2010 during discussions over the creation of a marine reserve in Akaroa Harbour. Our thoughts are with you.

My condolences to the Jensen family. Bryan was a gentleman scholar, and a very positive and often humorous influence in my work. It was a pleasure working with him, and he will be certainly missed in conservation protection.

A very sad loss of a person who I saw only as a perfect Gentleman. My sincere condolences to Leslie and the family.
Despite my long career, Bryan became a close friend and mentor to me. We shared a very similar set of values and work ethic making working with Bryan a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Our small National Fire team was very close, had we not been he may have retired earlier but I think that for the most part, he was addicted to the cafe's and buzz of working in Wellington.
I will miss our phone conversations and that booming voice.

Jeff and I want to express our thoughts to Bryan's family. Such a lovely, calm, appreciative, patient man. We were so lucky to have met him, be it for just a few months. So sad to see his empty room.
Great family who cared immensely. Special thoughts to you all.

To Bryan's family. Bryan became my manager in 2016 - I was initially intimidated by this fairly larger than life man and my new role in the National Fire team. But I quickly came to realise what an exceptionally nice, and equal tempered person he was - nothing riled him and our team could have some fairly robust discussions with Bryan quietly chuckling at some of the comments being thrown around. His summation of opinions, facts, comments etc were second to none. His typing, not so much... lol He became and has remained, the best manager I have had in my working career. He did not deserve the retirement he got, nor did his family. It was obvious to us, his team, that his family was important to him and we knew he was looking forward to spending time with you all. I'm glad I got to meet and learn from, such a nice person. Bryan will always remain in my thoughts xx
