Richard was my CEO in Canterbury Health from 1996 to 2000. He was an exceptional leader who got things done when others thought we impossible. The fact that people in Christchurch can access cardiac surgery is solely due to Richard's uncompromising focus to take on a myriad of vested interests. He was also my mentor that saw potential in a young Asian accountant. He taught me not in a classroom but allowing me to walk alongside him as he removed barriers and improved health services for people in Canterbury. There are more than few in New Zealand that look back at Richard's tenure as an exemplar of what exceptional leadership look like. Safe journey Richard and thank you and your family for spending time in New Zealand and leaving a legacy behind that few can emulate.
