Faye, Chris, Deb, Steve and Families we were so very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. We have many lovely memories of him. We went to the same primary school, Somme Street, where there were as many Flanagan boys as there were Stollery kids. Charlie was such a quiet person who always had a smile whenever you saw him. He was a wonderful coach to his crews and he was always there for his crew both for rowing and personally. I have vivid memories of being in the van holding the baby boy of the cox while Charlie was driving along side the river yelling to his crew. I was telling him to be quiet as the baby was sleeping!!! He just smiled and gave me that "Charlie" look. He was like a second father to Simon and I am grateful for that when we were living elsewhere. James played league with Charlie and has memories of some hard games and seeing stars on may occasions. He will be missed by so many but especially his lovely family. At this sad and difficult time, our own hearts go out to you. We are so very sorry for your loss.

Charlie was one of the first people I met when I arrived in NZ from Canada to coach in 2002. One of the warmest, most genuine people anybody will ever meet, and I'll never forget that smile! The mental image I'll always have of the 2002 Marlborough Champs is a monsoon rain storm in a place where it supposedly never rained....and Charlie standing under an umbrella smiling away. Because Charlie was at a regatta....and no weather issues were going to dampen the joy of being in his happy place, watching crews racing. A tremendous loss, and when we heard, it was one of those bits of news that just stops you cold. Condolences to Faye and all the family from us in Canada.

Faye and family

It was so sad to hear the news and I send my deepest condolences and support. I loved the 4 seasons in Charlie's crews. I was often outside my comfort zone during that time and Charlie was like a father figure away from home for me - he had a way of making it feel easy. I'm so grateful for our time together and wonderful memories.

One of the calmest people you will ever meet, always knew how to have a laugh, an attentive listener and talked to all people of all ages. I learnt a lot from my uncle by simply observing him and admiring how he intetacted with other people. Both Aunty Faye and Uncle Raymund have been great role models for us younger generations.
Now with Dad (Rays brother) and Aunty Trish in heaven. Our loss but heavens gain.
There will never be another Ray, but his legacy shines through in his wife, children and grandchildren. The brothers were such a laugh together and the reunions will never be the same. The seven brothers had such a neat bond and definitely knew how to pull eachothers leg.
We miss you Uncle Raymund and I wished I visited more often! Thanks for being such a kind and caring uncle.
