Peter SIVERTSEN Obituary

Surrounded by family and bathed in love, Peter Thomas Sivertsen passed away peacefully at Christchurch Hospital on January 22, 2026, aged 82. Cherished husband of 54 years of Margaret, adored Dad of Louise, Catherine, Rosemary, Martin and Juliette, trusted father-in-law of Nicholas, Jason and Samantha, beloved Grandad of Finn, Dominic and Mhairi, Georgia and Theo, Sophia, Vibeke and Clara, and Hector, treasured uncle and brother-in-law, and a great friend to many. Our deepest gratitude to the enduring kindness of all the doctors, nurses, carers and specialists at Christchurch Hospital and Bryndwr Medical Centre who cared for Peter with endless respect and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations can be made online to St Vincent de Paul at www.svdpcanterbury.nz/donations. Messages to the family can be sent to PO Box 26051, North Avon, Christchurch 8148. A vigil to pray the rosary will be held at St Gregory's Catholic Church, 26 Cotswold Avenue, Bishopdale, on Friday, January 30 at 6.30pm. A requiem mass to celebrate Peter's life will follow at St Gregory's Catholic Church on Saturday, January 31 at 9.30am.

Peter was such a lovely, calm and kind man who was a wonderful, loyal friend to our family over many years. He had such a thoughtful and measured way of speaking; more importantly he listened well and showed genuine interest in others. He enabled others around him let their lights shine without seeking to join the limelight. His children who are all such confident and successful people of the world are proof of his legacy. Everyone has a happy memory of Peter. Ours will be the many times we 'popped in' on the Sivertsens on the way home from Christchurch and we ended up staying for hours. Always hospitable (Margaret too!), kind and sincere. One of life's very good people. My thoughts are with Margaret, Louise, Catherine, Rosemary, Martin and Juliette, and their respective families at this time.
