If you look up the word inspiring in the dictionary you will find Peter Olliver as the definition.
A truly awesome human being who always had time for his students. Sending love to Jenny & family.

The myth that made true legend Mr Oliver, who taught me classics and called me a nerd for knowing a lot about classics, was one of the most influential and enthusiastic teachers I've met. All teachers should take a leaf out of his book, of showing genuine respect to students and making learning fun! May he rest in peace, not in the river Styx.

Deepest condolences to Claire,Jenny, Simon and extended family.
Pete was a true gentleman, with a warm heart and somehow managed to tame plenty of us muppets that passed through MBC over the years.
One of the good ones, lost too soon.

Peter Olliver was our neighbour. Nathan and I always felt that Peter and both Jenny dealt with his illness in the most positive and dignified way. We never met anyone who had a bad word to say about him. A good guy gone.

They write movies about teachers who are so incredibly driven to make a profound and lasting impact on their pupil´s lives. Peter was that epic story in real life. His positivity and optimism touched everyone. And thank God for his endless patience! A thoroughly decent man, always with the kindest and noblest of intentions. Blenheim has had a disproportionate footprint on New Zealand´s radio broadcasters over the last 30 years and that sits squarely on the shoulders of Peter´s amazing legacy. To an entirely different level than is common in his profession, Peter is intrinsically linked to the memories countless adults have of `the best time of their lives´. Rest easy Mr O.

It was a privilege to have known Peter and to have been taught by him. He was a man of passion and vision and he communicated these qualities to his students and friends alike. He will be sadly missed.

Mr Olliver was one of the coolest teachers I had, he was kind and caring, and you could tell his students meant a lot to him, and he wanted them to succeed. Mr O, was also one of the few teachers at school that cared about the arts and was actively proud of my arts achievements! He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten

Very happy memories of Peter at St Andrews and flatting in Riccarton in the late 60s early 70s, also occasional visits to Blenheim. As the photo shows Peter was best man at my wedding. Earth´s loss is heavens gain.

Mr Oliver was one of the few teachers who truly pushed me to succeed, helping me recognise my academic potential when I couldn´t see it myself. Without his support and ethic of care in teaching, I wouldn´t be here today completing my PhD. Moe mai ra
