Peter was always willing to help and I owe him so much. He built my first yacht in his garage (Starling Class) and it was a piece of art. It was built light, strong and fast and I went on to have a lot of success with it. Fond memories; thoughts and prayers with him and family.

Our Deepest Sympathies and Condolences to Nelson, Megan, Traci and families.
Peter was a group leader of the Pegasus Sea Scout Group in the 1980's. He was one of the driving forces to get new fibreglass cutters re-established in New Zealand and he spent endless hours building new boats for the group. Peter and Zeph attended Area and National Regattas throughout the country. Zeph as a judge for camping competitions and Peter looking after water activities. It was not uncommon for Peter to work right through the night to repair boats, so that no one would miss out on boating activities. Nothing gave him more joy than to watch the young members enjoying these activities. Peter made such a tremendous impact on the group, and we held the Jellicoe Trident (Top NZ Award) for 10 years, under his watch.
Our thoughts are with you all, and we hope that your wonderful memories together will be a comfort during this difficult time.

It was a privilege for me as a young Detective to work alongside Pete Gardiner in the ChCh CIB back in 1978-86. He was a meticulous Detective Sgt and there was nobody better at doing a crime scene search and securing evidence. Pete ferried me and Mike Neald to and from work in his own car. Pete was one of the very best in the job, keen to help the younger police officers in the day. RIP Pete, with Zeph. Condolences to the family.
