I read recently of Peter's passing.

I had the privilege of being a friend of Peter in my younger days when we flatted together. As young Christian men we encouraged each other in our walk with the Lord and often prayed together.

Peter was an encourager and faithful genuine deciple of Jesus with a good sense of humour!
Now having looked into the face of Jesus and heard those wonderful words
"Enter into my kingdom faithful servant and rest"
Thinking and praying for Peter's family at this time of sorrow

I have just learnt of the news of Peter's passing. Peter was a friend of mine from MoE - we enjoyed biking the last stretch into the office together and often grabbed a coffee before sneaking into the office. You were a true gentleman Peter and will be sorely missed.

My sincerest sympathies to Cheryl and family on Peter's passing. Peter was a great friend; loyal, sincere , genuine to the core and immensely caring. Peter lived for Christ and his discipleship was significant. He put himself out to help others. A life well lived indeed! He will be greatly missed but he is safely in the arms of Christ now and all is well. I'll catch up with you again one day Peter in heaven.

Dear Cheryl and family
I´m very sorry to hear of Peter´s passing. My parents Rita and Merv Ivory, (Peter´s Uncle) thought a great deal of him and would often remark that Peter had `Popped´ in to see them.
That made their day.
I remember Peter with a big smile, softly spoken and gentle and you felt he was truly happy to see you.
I hadn´t seen Peter for years but was always kept informed by my parents as to how he was as I moved to Australia many yrs ago.
We had spoken about 4 yrs ago when he called, I think confusing me with our other cousin called Glenys, but we had a lovely chat, an easy conversation about life and we had planned a catch up for a coffee as I always miss him on my return trips. Alas I am still to make that trip.
Thinking of you all
With deepest sympathy

Hi Cheryl and family,
My deepest sympathies for your loss.
As a former colleague of Peter´s at the Ministry, I can only describe him as one of the nicest persons I knew in New Zealand. I now live in Australia, but am back over in NZ for a short stay to run the Queenstown marathon. It was actually Peter that got me into marathon running about 15 years ago, with a 10km race that he suggested I enter. Peter also navigated me towards some wonderful camping spots around the South Island with his extensive touring knowledge and love of the outdoors. What a great loss, but also, what a remarkably nice and gentle man. It was a privilege to work alongside him.

It was a pleasure to get to know the Fenwick family when I was teaching at Middleton Grange. I learnt that Peter and I first met when we attended joint Presbyterian Bible Class activities in the Oxford/Cust area in the 1960's. Peter was a wonderful friend of Hillview Christian School in his MOE role during rapid growth of the school for ten years from 1998. He was a true servant with a heart of compassion. Peter was a very genuine person with an infectious love of God and his Word. He was a faithful friend to others because of his close connection to the Lord Jesus Christ. I extend my love to the whole family at this time as you remember your wonderful husband/father/grandfather and celebrate his promotion to Heaven.

Peter was a friend to our school during his tenure at the Ministry of Education . He guided and advised us during crazy times of change and uncertainty including the years of the earthquakes. He was the consummate professional but it was so easy to make him laugh. He was kind and thoughtful but I could never persuade him that the razor wire around the pool was an art installation. Peter you are safe at home with Jesus but missed by us.

Comments from John MacClure: One of the things I valued most about Peter was his genuine interest in me and others around him. He was so generous with his time and thought deeply how to support others to meet their goals. His faith in Christ shone through in all that he did. He has been a great support to me and our family since we moved to Christchurch in 1990 and as my friend (and one-time work colleague) I will miss him greatly.

Comments from Liz MacClure
Sometimes after chatting with Peter about our faith he often followed up with 'second thoughts ' about our discussion, recommending a good book or sharing a truth from the bible. The way he genuinely cared and served us and others over the years was quiet ,genuine, sacrificial and very much appreciated and provoking.

As a work colleague of Peter for 32 years at the MOE, it was always a pleasure to be in his company. He was a true gentleman and friend and will be sadly missed.
