My heartfelt condolences to Heather, Laura and the wider Kissell family on the sad passing of Paul.
In doing so I would like to acknowledge PK's stoicism, bravery and humour when facing the final curtain.
An irrespressible character of grit and determination garnered with cheeky humour and goodwill who had the universal respect of sailor and peace-keeper alike.

Rest easy PK.

I remember when Paul and I were part of ships company one weekend with Lt Brian Alpress as skipper. We ended up in Port Levi for the night. Tea was a BBQ on the bench half way down on the north west side. At end of BBQ everyone was back on board except for Paul, sub Lt.Robinson, Myself and one other rating. The four of us were left the Whaler and the Dinghy and told to find our own way back to Lyttelton. Which we did. Pulled the Dinghy up the beach. Rowed the Whaler down to the jetty and tied it up. The four of us walked to a farm house. We slept in the farmers wool shed. Next morning breakfast with the farmer. Then we started walking out to Diamond Harbour. We were picked up by another farmer driving to Diamond Harbour. We caught the ferry to Lyttelton. The fourth member of our group had his car in Lyttelton so we drove around to Cass Bay. Mission accomplished.

In all of the decades which Jan and I have known Paul, we have never found him to be anything but honest, reliable, invariably smiling and always willing to be of assistance. Paul, we are very, very sad that you have gone, but very, very glad that you were our friend. Heather, our sincere condolences on your loss.

It is so hard to believe and accept that PK has gone. He shared many wonderful fun stories and had great suggestions on how to save money when building a house. He was kind and extremely generous with his time in helping others. There is now another empty seat at the Templeton RSA and he will be greatly missed. To Heather and Laura my deepest sympathy for your loss. Treasure your memories. Judith Ackroyd - Templeton RSA

It was an honour and privilege to have worked alongside PK for many years. He wired our house, and delivered our firewood for many years, often with his little girl in the truck. You will be missed by many for a very long time, for you were an honourable man. Very fond memories of "The Old Days".
Our condolences to Heather, Laura and family.
RIP. Bill and Daphne

We are so sad to hear of your passing PK. Tuesday night Bingo at the Rolly will not be the same without hearing your many stories. We will miss you bringing your moisture meter in winter to make sure the firewood is dry enough to keep us all toasty warm! Rest in peace PK.

I worked with Paul at Hornby Station. I also worked with him as he was a qualified electrician when I built a new house in Halswell. Paul's advise was to save money, pull all the wires myself. I had put in 90 flush boxes and was proud when Paul pointed out that I had made ONE MISTAKE..
He was a character socially and also at work. He was active as a Naval reservist as a Petty Officer. He was a great team man as the navy and police found out. He owned him Landrover and RL Bedford, and his big dog. Then he met Heather and I think he included her.
They have been together for many decades which was a sign that she was the right woman for Paul. Although I haven't seen him for years, he often comes up in our conversations. RIP Paul. Blue Caldwell.
