Patricia took her final flight on July 30, 2024, from Sprott House in Karori, aged 99. Until shortly before her death, she lived in her cottage in Karori where much of her life was spent. Devoted wife of Squadron Leader Alexander Stuart Tie (dec 1956). Daughter of Alfred Edward and Pearl Elizabeth Elgar. Sister of Edward, Gerald, Bettine, Stanley, Marjorie, Ronald and Ruhi. Greatly loved mother of Robert, Andrew, Wendy, Bruce and Maxwell. Grandmother of Karin Staines, Alexander, Louise and James Tie, Fraser and Jessica Allison, Dylan and Kim Tie, and Sophie and Catherine Tie. Great-grandmother of Gabrielle, Anna, Beatrice, Imogen, Rose, Arthur, Layla, Ardie, Aaliyah, Rueben, Charlie and Ardie. Pat had many nephews and nieces, and descendants from them. She was devoted to the memory of Stuart, and remained single after his death in the Malayan Emergency in 1956 while supply dropping during the monsoon. (The crash was the last fatal accident on active service in the RNZAF.) The RSA was a wonderful comfort to her, and their wartime friends supported her greatly all through life.
