Patricia BALDWIN Obituary

Died after a long illness in the care of the wonderful team at Burwood Hospital on March 7, 2024, aged 76. Deeply beloved wife of Patrick; mother of Sean, Sarah, Anna, and Ben; mother-in-law of Kavita, Michael, and Kate; grandmother of Tessa, Jack, Jane, Annie, Angus, Dylan, Ben, William, Ed, Eleanor, Matthew, Jojo, and Tommy; great-grandmother of Oliver and Isobel; daughter of Teenie; niece of Janey; sister of Maureen, Colleen, Aileen, Alannah, Mickey, and Josie. An extraordinary life devoted above all to the care and love of her family, for whom she was the central pillar and greatest grace. A long career as a teacher of English and drama, including at Kaiapoi High School and Christchurch Girls High School, for many of whose students she was a dearly beloved mentor and guide. A preternaturally gifted singer, actor, and dancer in many productions over the years, and a director of many additional productions. A world traveller who spent long periods of her life with family in New York, England, France, and Australia, but was most at home in the beautiful house Patrick built for her in Clarkville, surrounded by their family, books and photos, and the garden she created and nurtured there. An impossibly full and beautiful life. A wonderful woman, who will always be with us.

I have just heard of Patricia passing. She was lovley care person and a pleasure to be with. I remember Aunt Kitty telling me how Pat rang her and told her he had met the lady he was going to marry. If I remember it right the met on a train in Wellington. They were a devoted couple. Please accept my sympathy for her passing. She sang at our father's funeral in Whataroa. Patsy will remain in our hearts as the dearest mother and grandma. We were so fortunate to have spent time with her and Pat and so many of their near and extended brood (which we counted ourselves as part of). She will be sorely missed and I will forever have a tear of joy whenever the lilting refrains of "Dannyboy" are heard - no one sang it better than Patsy! All our love, Jim, Kathleen and all the Blaney-Massey family from NYC

Patsy, I knew you only for a short time. Within that time you showed me your strength, and your yearning to get better. You were particularly concerned about Pat and you desperately wanted to get home so that you could be with him. I could see how proud you were of all of your family, and I could feel the love of your family for you. You had an air of positivity and grace about you, it was such a pleasure to see your smile and converse with you. I would have liked to talk to you more. It's clear your family adored you and you will be sorely missed. RIP Patsy xx
