Norma Shirley Obituary

Jean Shirley, 93, passed away at Linden Court in North Platte, NE on December 23, 2025.

Jean was a longtime resident of Maywood, NE. She married Bob Shirley on February 20, 1954 and had two children, Mark and Brad. She was deeply connected to the community, being the last remaining member of her class of 1950 and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Bob and Jean purchased the grocery store in Maywood in 1959 and operated it for 35 years. 

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and parents, Clarence Thomas Sloan and Irene Lancaster.

Survivors include sons, Brad (Tawna) Shirley of Maywood, NE, Pam Shirley of Hutchinson, KS, and Mark (Deb) Shirley of Encampment Wy, sister Sheryl Aupperle of Maywood; grandchildren Joe of Lexington, NE, Laura of Montreal, Canada, and Josh of Denver, CO, five great-grandsons, Carson, Kye, Hamish, Oscar, and Jameson Toby.

Family was at the center of Jean’s life. She took great pride in caring for those she loved and found joy in everyday moments shared together. Whether through her family, friendships, or community involvement, Jean touched many lives in ways both large and small.

A service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Friday, December 26th at 11:00 AM at the Maywood Methodist Church.

Jean Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
