Farewell my childhood playmate and school friend.
We would hang out in your hut at the end of the garden and exchange clods with Gerald Orchard over the river.
Fortunately, he wasn't a judge at that stage.

Owen taught me chemistry at Hillmorton High School in the mid 1970s. If students get lucky, they get an inspirational teacher and Owen was that for me. He also introduced me to tramping and often took a few of us keen kids away on the weekends in his old Landrover. That has given me a lifelong love of the outdoors. He probably never knew what an influence he had but I owe him so much.
Rest in peace Owen.
