Oscar helped me as a Notary Public to get the paperwork for my Citizenship Application together. He was delightful, with the signed paperwork presented to me with an old-fashioned wax seal and tied with a small ribbon. He seemed a real 'salt of the earth' type who truly wants to help and make a difference in people's lives. Tellingly, he also charged much much less for his services than the other Notary Publics available, a true testament to a humble, values-driven person.
Thank you, Oscar, and rest in peace.

In his last year Oscar helped me in the biggest way possible. I was scared of lawyers and had no idea what to do. Oscar stepped up for me, was extremely kind and helpful and went above and beyond. Even though he was hurting inside. He still helped me. I owe a lot to Oscar. Even though I was only a client, to me, he was more than just a lawyer. Thank you so much Oscar and I wish I could´ve told you how much you helped me.

I am very sad to only learn now of Oscar's passing. Unfortunately I was overseas at the time. I remember Oscar fondly, not just for his professional advice which was always focused on constructive solutions, pragmatic and delivered with a gentle sense of humor. I enjoyed many long un-billed(!) conversations with Oscar and I admired how he genuinely wanted to help people and his long history of community service. I hope it is a small comfort for his family to know that Oscar was greatly appreciated by those of us who were lucky enough to meet or work with him in the wider community. Thank you for sharing him with us!

My parents and Oscar's parents were good friends dating back more than 80 years. Nearly 50 years ago I had cause to seek legal help from Oscar. He was just what I needed at the time. His calm and measured approach helped me through a very difficult few years of my life. Since then I met Oscar maybe a couple of times, but I have never forgotten how he helped me.
Rest in peace Oscar.

What sad news. My thoughts are with the family. Oscar was really helpful after Glynne died and we needed information from her computer that World OMEP wanted. I realise he must have been unwell so I am really grateful. Warm regards, Charlotte Robertson, OMEP Aotearoa NZ.

Oscar's parents and mine worked together at Charlie Thomas's legal office over80 years ago and Oscar did law with me. He was a charming person and a very good lawyer who did his best for his clients without unnecessarily making a meal of issues. Garry Thompson

Thinking of you Oscar and your Family. I too stayed at Rakaia Huts as a young girl. Always a good friend to our Family Oscar, apparently we had been clients for over 70 years with your Family. A true family solicitor was Oscar. Your death has saddened me - Occie Alpers.

Farewell Oscar with love and fond blessings from the Dawson family. We have treasured childhood memories of days playing at the Rakaia Huts, catching eels, swimming in the nomadic river reaches and cutting gorse tracks. RIP dear Ock.

Oscar and I were on the Christchurch City Council together. Oscar brought his wealth of knowledge to the table and will be remembered for "Oscar's Bulldozer", a great concept and a better Quip.
Peace, Oscar.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Oscar Alpers who was my friend, advisor and fellow member of Mount Vernon Park.
A person who I admired for that friendship, advice and his commitment to the Port Hills.
His involvement with Mount Vernon started with its inception and has now ended with his untimely passing.

Oscar will be fondly remembered for his commitment to the environment and the land he loved. Oscar's name is ensured to continue by the friendly welcome to a very special place in the Mount Vernon Park at the end of Albert Terrace known as the OSCAR ALPERS GROVE.

This name is befitting to a person who was so committed to providing and protecting natural open space for the enjoyment of people of Christchurch.
My thoughts go to those who meant most to him family and friends.

So sad to hear of Oscar's passing. I knew him through Glynne, who was a colleague and friend through early childhood education. Glynne would often talk with love of Oscar at work as we caught up on what we did on the weekend. My condolences to the family for this loss.

Oscar was my lawyer and in that capacity was extremely helpful and supportive. He was also married to a long time friend of mine and I was so pleased that she and Oscar found happiness together. May they both rest in peace -
