Farewell to Noel.
It surprises me how hard it hits when faced with final farewells. Mentally it's all part of life, but when it happens those emotions always get me. Noel's passing is no different.
There are so many memories, and they were shared by so many of our Montgomery extended family. Family and fun have always been the keys to being a Montgomery. Noel was always up for a laugh, a prank a good time - a true Monty.
The memories that come to my mind's forefront are of the times spent in the summer at the beach. 4 uncles were out fishing in two boats, 4 aunties made food and visited and a gazillion kids would tear up the beach having fun.
A more specific event was, one time the Noels and the Bernards went camping for a week in Manipouri. It poured with rain for 6 days and what I most remember was Noel out there with a tomahawk digging a trench around the tent to keep the water away.
Another time we were at the Noels house in Ravensbourne. It was Noels great idea to take a tape recorder and "interview" all the kids with their kid voices, knowing someday we'd grow up and so would our voices. This was back in the early to mid 70's before other recording device options were invented.
I listened to that tape in late teenage-hood and thought how awesome it was of Noel to do that one small thing. I don't suppose the tape still exists today as a lot of water has gone under the bridge and it was likely swept out to sea as things in life often are.
But the memories remain.
Thank you Uncle Noel for all you were. Like those who have preceeded you, you will not be forgotten.
Maria
